I spent the past 9 days in Great Britain to attend the London 2012 Olympics, see old friends in the UK, and spend some quality time and relaxation with my family (parents and little sister Chloe) in Southern England.
We attended the women’s gymnastics qualifications and saw the US team’s “Fabulous Five” secure their spot in the team final which they went on to win. It was a magical experience. Being immersed in the energy of the Olympic Games made me want to be more and do more. Here are a few photos from my trip:
When I was looking through some of the photos from our trip to the UK and the Olympics, I was trying to figure out what makes a very talented athlete an Olympian versus a very talented athlete who never makes it that far. This question popped into my head:
Am I being the best me I can be?
If you take a moment to answer this question (I mean really answer this question), it will tell you a lot. This is a yes or no question. If your answer is: “I’m trying” or “I think so” or “I don’t know” or “there’s just so much on my plate right now”. . . then your answer is decidedly no.
Olympians beat all odds. They strive to be their very best. They know that making excuses doesn’t get them anywhere. They demand personal excellence from themselves and their teammates. And when that’s not good enough, their coach pushes them to be even more. Some get to stand on the podium with a medal around their neck and most don’t but they all get to say that they are an Olympian. That takes strength, courage, persistence, and encouragement.
If you’re aren’t being the best YOU that you can be, answer these questions:
What do I need to change? What do I need to do differently?
What healthy habits do I need to cultivate?
What bad habits do I need to get rid of?
Athletes don’t go it alone– they have a coach or multiple coaches. You don’t have to go it alone either! Change is hard. Support and accountability from a coach often make the difference between success and failure. If you’re ready to step up and start making changes, schedule a Get Real Breakthrough Session today!
