Do You Surround Yourself with Healthy People?

We had friends over for lunch on Saturday and knowing that they are both pretty healthy eaters, I served a Mexican Quinoa Salad (recipe to come) and a large bowl of greens topped with walnuts and dried cranberries. I consider that to be pretty standard Saturday lunch fare at our house. Lunch was on the table in 15 minutes. To us, that’s just how we eat. Healthy, wholesome, real food meals everyday.

To my surprise and delight, our guests were incredibly appreciative and thankful to have friends that eat healthy, like they do. One even said width=“Wow Erin, its so nice to have people that really “get it”. . . you know, the whole eating good food makes you feel great thing.” I cracked up. I know exactly what he’s talking about.

Do you have friends or family members that eat healthy foods and understand the value of it? Do they “get it” that eating healthy food gives you more energy, glowing skin, helps you naturally lose weight and keep it off, and just plain makes you feel awesome?

If not, its time to surround yourself with healthy people who make you feel good and understand your goals, values, and lifestyle. Being criticized, made to feel “weird”, or not feeling like you belong will sabotage your self-esteem, your efforts to be healthy, and the progress you’ve made. Go to a cooking class, take a grocery store tour, join a Meet-up or local group. Get out there and meet new people that are like-minded. This will not only make you feel like you fit in, you’re going to LOVE the new recipes, ideas, and insight that comes out of a passionate groups’ energy.

Another (in my opinion, even cooler) alternative is to help the people you know and love already to be more healthy. Sometimes they are willing to listen and try new things and other times they are not. That’s okay. . . keep trying! Other times, they (and your relationship) are better off learning about being healthy and eating a healthy, wholesome, and nutritious diet from someone else. Know what I mean?

That’s where I can help. You see, some of my most successful clients have seen their friends and family go through awesome health transitions and come to see me to “join the club”. Or, they come to me to be the catalyst for change for both themselves and the people around them.
