Since I was a kid, I understood that being healthy is important. A gymnast since the age of two, I totally got that if you’re hurt, you can’t practice. If you can’t practice, you can’t compete. If you can’t compete, you can’t reach your goals. Well, that’s the way my mind worked then anyway.
The funny thing is that I was like the walking wounded with a big smile on my face and an insatiable desire to succeed. I had eczema all over my arms, legs, and neck. I collected a brace for every knee, wrist, ankle or elbow injury. I had frequent stomach aches, chronic constipation, headaches, dizzy spells, and brain fog. I got allergy shots, cortisone cream, and pill after pill touted to decrease inflammation, pain, and kill the infection.
Not one doctor or specialist looked beyond the symptoms to the underlying problem. No one talked about diet. No one asked “what is she eating?”
Years later, I went to a holistic nutritionist and we figured it out together. I had food allergies and chronic inflammation. I learned that there is nothing more powerful to make you sick or make you well than the food you eat every day. Knowing what to eat for your body will give you the edge you need to feel vibrant, confident, and have a lot more energy.
My educational background and experience gives me a firm foundation and unique perspective to help you uncover what’s keeping you stuck so you can regain control of your health.
I remember sitting at the kitchen table with my parents when I was in high school and talking about “what I want to do when I grow up.” My answer: “I want to help people get healthy.”
So, that’s what I’ve been up to ever since. I got my bachelors in Biomedical Materials Engineering/Pre-Med from Alfred University and went on to grad school at the University of Rochester to study Biomedical Engineering and to help save the world, of course. While working in the lab on cutting-edge cancer-detection techniques by day and reading every health and nutrition book I could get my hands on by night, I had a startling realization. . . poor nutrition is the #1 cause of the cancer we were trying to detect in the lab.
I saw our sick-care system from the inside and left grad school with my masters’ in hand on a mission to shift the paradigm. With my logical, systematic, problem-solving brain, I headed straight to the world-renowned Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. There, we fused traditional healing modalities such as Ayurveda with cutting-edge concepts like the glycemic index, food allergy elimination, and superfoods. Now armed with an integrative understanding of the body, its interaction with food and the environment, and as a Certified Health Coach, I hit the ground running and haven’t looked back.
My goal is for you to live fully, passionately, and in vibrant health. I want you to hop out of bed in the morning, excited for the day ahead.
In early 2009, I founded Healthy Habits International LLC and have since helped 150+ clients like you learn what to eat for their bodies, how to fit good food into their lives, and also how to get out of overwhelm and focus on priorities. I’m an avid speaker, blogger, health writer, and cooking-class instructor.
When I’m not coaching clients, holding workshops, or running my business, you can find me inventing new recipes, cooking, traveling, hiking, biking, skiing, snowboarding, camping, or having a good time with friends. My husband Dondi, toddler, and I live in Ithaca, New York.
